In The Shadows Level

In The Shadows is a 3D school project I created in Unreal Engine 4.27. The purpose of the project was to implement design principles, create a fun level to play, and create preproduction documents. I used Unreal's starter content pack with two additional assets from the store: SuperGrid Starter pack by ZeOrb and Modern Pistol with Third Person Animations by MeshGames.


Overview: The player is Beth Darwin, a FBI agent called in to investigate a recent murder. Darwin has become a rising super star in the Bureau, in part to her investigative skills but also her ability to enter the Shadow Realm, allowing her to see what others cannot. For this level, the player will first follow the local detective as he explains the working theory. The player will then search for a total of three clues, before being lured up to the attic to engage with a dark enemy only she can see.


Script: I scripted much of the level, in addition to creating the basic block mesh for the level. I scripted the detective, his AI movements and text speech. I added the player's ability to switch between first and third person perspective, ability to holster and unholster their weapon, ability to pick up and drop specific objects. I scripted several box triggers around

the level, like triggering the different cinematics, spawning clues and texts. Lastly I scripted and created the Shadow Realm UI Overlay that the player can enter and exit and the material changes that occur while in it.

Preproduction: The preproduction documents include a map, walkthrough, asset list, reference college, timeline, and "postcard" moments (significant gameplay moments).
